How I choose to Live with God

Question 1 (Multiple choice) 20pts

At two observation points 150 km apart in the east-west direction (the west being observation point A, and the east being observation point B), seismometers were installed to record east-west, north-south, and vertical movements. These seismometers recorded waveform records of an earthquake caused by meteorite impact. Identify the point of impact and time of impact using these records. P-waves and S-waves were observed at each station at the times indicated in Fig. 1. To represent coordinates on the horizontal plane, we define the origin as observation point A, with the x-axis and y-axis as due east and due north respectively. In addition, the azimuth θ (180° < φ < 180°) of the impact point as seen from observation point A will be defined as the angle of counterclockwise rotation from due east, as seen in Fig. 1. The azimuth φ(180°<φ<180°)of the meteorite’s impact angle will be defined in relation to the meteorite’s projected shadow on the horizontal plane, once again using counterclockwise rotation as our positive direction. Furthermore, the ground surface of this area is completely flat, and the underground P-waves and S-waves measure velocities of 6.5km/s and 3.5km/s respectively. You can disregard the impact of shockwaves generated in the atmosphere as a result of the meteorite. Assume the existence of an observer, and that the continued existence of humanity is not in question.

Question 1 (Multiple choice) 20pts

Fig. 1 depicts the records of seismometers installed at point A, B and C. The horizontal axis records the time since the arrival of the first P-waves. The first S-wave arrived at point A the same time as the first P-wave reached point B.
Fig. 2 depicts the geographical relationship between points A, B and C on a horizontal plane. You can assume that the properties of the surrounding area as well as the elevation levels are identical.
Choose the correct epicenter for this earthquake, from points a~i.

[Find the epicenter], in other words-
D = kt the Kobayashi formula…

We can ignore the constant k
2:3:2 <Distance to the epicenter>[D] is proportional to <the duration of the initial tremors>[t]

Using these radii values…we can draw three circles…
And straight lines down their overlapping areas…

And the intersection of these three lines-

“In other words, h is the epicenter!”

Question 2 (Free answer) 10pts
In that scenario, how many times is the P-wave’s velocity compared to that of the S-wave?

“-I mean”
The same elevation level, and the same kind of soil?
“And”
<The epicenter and not the hypocenter>[that] is what they’re asking us to solve for??
